General James R. Chalmer's Brigade and General Daniel P. Donelson's Brigade Historic Markers

The historic markers for General James R. Chalmers’ Mississippi Brigade and General Daniel P. Donelson’s Tennessee Brigade were dedicated November 18, 1995. General James R. Chalmer’s Mississippi Brigade was active during the Battle of Stones River, attacking the Union army on December 31, near where the Hazen Brigade monument currently stands. General Daniel P. Donelson’s Tennessee Brigade followed Chalmer’s brigade into battle. When Chalmers became wounded and his troops withdrew, Donelson’s troops took their place.

These markers were sponsored by the Rutherford County Historical Society, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter 1, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 28. The Murfreesboro City Council also helped make these markers a reality by allocating funds for the construction of the driveway that gives tourists access to the markers.
