The Bradley Academy Marker

Bradley Academy’s historical marker was erected in 1955 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Bradley Academy, Murfreesboro’s first educational institution, was organized for the education of white men in 1806. The school was integrated in 1884. Jos. Dixon, Jno. R. Bedford, Jn. Thompson, St., Wm. P. Anderson, and Robert Smith were early trustees, and the Academy was supported partly by tuition fees and partly by lottery. Bradley Academy’s historic marker is free-standing and maintained by the Tennessee Historical Commission.
